Great point John -- many find it difficult to visualize the reality that inner most waist curve of spherical shape of the back plate is the high point. I always highly recommend Johnathan Kinkead's construction manual --- but even in that publication he shows a rim profiling method that fails to take this geometry into account.

I am not sure I could see the slope of 1 1/2 degree from the sound hole to the neck block the difference is about .06" or so.

I have pre-profiled sides from Martin dating from the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. None of them have the curvature on the top edge that John alludes to. They are all profiled on the back edge, however.
